I had a good time. The group held together well and was respectful to one another. The hotel was great and had excellent food. The hotel and tour staff went above and beyond in accommodating us for our trip. I had asked for a roommate and was assigned to a woman who is no longer my roommate, but my friend.
We saw a lot of the Julian Alps area, and when it rained we went to little local museums, which really gave you an insight into the place. It is truly beautiful, enough that I often wondered if the locals realize how truly lucky they are.
The only small issue, because I have no idea how to solve it, is the ability level of the group. There were people who had climbed multiple American mountains many times, and people like me who consider walking 3-5 miles do-able. I had difficulty in rough terrain, and often sat out some hikes because of this. In the end, that’s my problem, not the trip. But I do think there’s a definite difference between a walk and a hike, and I’m not sure our guide got that concept.
But it was a fascinating time in a truly gorgeous part of Europe. Thanks!
